Outpatient US Clinical Experience in Internal Medicine in Newark
What you will do:
This is an outpatient experience during which you will be under the supervision of a physician who is board-certified in Internal Medicine. The preceptor holds hospital privileges at Overlook Hospital. The physician has extensive experience teaching medical students and residents and was formerly a Clinical Associate Professor at Seton Hall University.
This preceptor believes in the delivery of cost-conscious healthcare with a focus on using the history and exam to guide the proper ordering of diagnostic testing. You will learn how to practice patient-centered care with an emphasis on going above and beyond for patients, as you would want and expect from your own physician. New patient evaluations will be extensive, often lasting 1-2 hours.
During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:
Taking patient histories under supervision.
Examining patients under supervision.
Presenting patients.
Assisting the preceptor with the EMR (Patient Fusion).
Have opportunities to research the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.
Spending time with other healthcare professionals to understand their roles and responsibilities.
Who should consider this rotation:
International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking US clinical experience in Internal Medicine.
How to obtain a letter of recommendation:
The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft.
During the rotation:
Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.
Testimonials
This rotation gave me plenty of opportunities to take patient histories and an amazing experience being involved in the very comprehensive annual physical examinations. I had the opportunity to perform EKGs, PFTs, ABIs, MMSEs and physical examinations. I was also given the opportunity to use the EMR. Dr. X is a wealth of knowledge and a brilliant teacher. The doctor taught me something with every patient that we saw. The entire team is extremely nice and helpful. I had a wonderful experience!
