Information about this clinical experience:
You will be under the supervision of a board-certified family medicine physician. The preceptor is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University and an Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Illinois.
The doctor holds hospital appointments at University of Illinois Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and Presence Saints Mary's Hospital.
During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:
Taking patient histories.
Performing exams.
Presenting patients.
Writing or entering clinic notes
Research the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.
Educating patients.

Spending time with other healthcare professionals (diabetes educator, acupuncturist, homeopathy) in the office to understand their roles and responsibilities.
Please note that during peak periods (Apr-Aug) this preceptor has multiple students per month (as many as 5-6). What that means is that you will see fewer patients per day during those months (< 5 patients).
Who should consider this rotation:
International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking US clinical experience in family medicine.
How to obtain a letter of recommendation:
The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft.
During the rotation:
Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.
